United is the Way: A Welcome Message from Executive Director Chad Wilson

A Word from the Executive Director

United is the Way. That slogan feels especially timely right now—and you’ll be hearing me repeat it often in the months ahead. As the new Executive Director of United Way of Clark, Champaign, and Madison Counties, I have been deeply encouraged by the dedication of our staff, board members, volunteers, and community partners. Their commitment to this mission is inspiring.

As we grow our footprint across all three counties while continuing to support vital nonprofit partners, it is essential that we lead with both a growth mindset and a listening ear. The fundraising landscape is changing, and many of the challenges facing our communities can feel overwhelming. That is exactly why I believe so strongly in the United Way model.

We help communities thrive by carefully vetting and supporting critical service providers, inviting participation at every level, and telling our story clearly, so neighbors know how to get involved. In doing so, we build unity across our region. Generosity truly is contagious.

I am especially excited to expand volunteer opportunities for the next generation. Serving locally as a high school student can spark a lifelong commitment to civic leadership. Recently, I had the chance to interview students from Catholic Central High School about their experiences volunteering through United Way, and their reflections especially about giving back in Springfield – were encouraging and powerful.

I also look forward to engaging more businesses by helping them and their employees better understand the local impact they can support. I have already begun meeting with leaders across each county, and I am grateful for the warm welcome and shared enthusiasm for what lies ahead.

My encouragement to all of us is simple: stay hopeful, stay creative, and stay connected as we step into this next chapter together. United is the Way.
