Purpose - United Way of Clark, Champaign & Madison Counties (UWCCMC) has strong relationship and business needs to collect and store information about the people who participate directly with UWCCMC or who use various communication portals with UWCCMC.  Those individuals have strong interests in knowing how UWCCMC uses their information and protects their privacy.   

 

Scope - This privacy policy applies to the collection, storage, and use of information, including information collected on the UWCCMC website.  The policy will be displayed on the UWCCMC website and is available to anyone upon request so that a person who submits information to UWCCMC or any of UWCCMC staff, knowingly accepts the practices described in this policy, and the practices of UWCCMC’s processing of personal information.   

 

Policy - In order to be clear and transparent, and to allow people to review UWCCMC’s commitment to be effective, careful, and efficient stewards of personal information and donations, UWCCMC will share the following privacy policy, wherever appropriate:   

 

When you interact with us, electronically or in other ways, you may provide us with personal information, such as your name, address, telephone number,  and email address.  When you knowingly disclose that information, we collect it for the purpose you intended. These purposes include, for example, registering to receive newsletters or other materials; requesting information about our work and practices; registering for an event; volunteering with us; or simply asking a question.  
 

We ask for personal information so that we can fulfill your request. We do not collect personal information from you unless you provide it, so you may engage with us without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information. The information you do provide is stored in accordance with pertinent laws, rules, and regulations.  

 

When you provide information for a specific purpose, we use the information only for that purpose. For example, if you make a donation or register for an event, we will collect and use the personal information provided to process the donation or registration and to keep you apprised about the impact of your donation, the work of United Way of Clark, Champaign & Madison Counties, and opportunities to volunteer or get more involved.   If a credit/debit card is used to make a donation or to register for an event, the donor is asked to enter his/her credit/debit card information directly into the PCI compliant site on the UWCCMC website.  The donor’s credit/debit card number is not stored or retained by UWCCMC.   

 

If you designate your gift through United Way of Clark, Champaign & Madison Counties to another non-profit, you can choose whether or not your information is shared with that non-profit.  If you do not indicate otherwise, United Way of Clark, Champaign & Madison Counties will share your name, contact information and amount of gift to the non-profit to which you direct your donation.  This information will enable the organization to acknowledge your donation directly and to send you follow-up information about their programs. If you mark the box next to “I do NOT want my name released to the organization,” neither your name nor any other information about you will be transmitted to the recipient nonprofit organization when payment is made to that organization.  You will still receive an acknowledgement of your gift from United Way of Clark, Champaign & Madison Counties, and your gift will remain tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. 

 

Other instances where we may use your information are to comply with the law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to conform to the requirements of law or comply with legal process served on us, protect and defend our rights, or act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of others.  We may also use the personal information to protect against potential fraud.  We may verify with third parties the information collected in the course of processing donation or event registration.  If you use a credit or debit card on the website, we may use card authorization and fraud screening services to verify that your card information and address matches the information that you provided to us and that the card being used has not been reported lost or stolen.

We will NOT sell, trade, rent, or share your personal information with outside sources.  We will NOT send you mailings on behalf of other organizations.   

 

Personal information is stored on our server and is NOT publicly accessible.  Personal information is only accessed by UWCCMC personnel on a “need to know” basis.  To prevent unauthorized access, maintain accuracy, and safeguard the proper use of information, we have physical, electronic, and managerial procedures in place to secure the information we collect.  Sensitive data, such as credit/debit card numbers, are processed using industry standard security measures.   

 

We reserve the ability to change this Donor Privacy Policy from time to time.  When we do, we will note the last update at the bottom of this Donor Privacy Policy.
